Where to Find Ice Cream Around Chattanooga

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream – especially come summertime! In the Scenic City, you’ll find a number of establishments churning out frozen treats to help you beat the heat. Some are local, some are national chains, but all offer a variety of ice creams in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere (and, most importantly, they offer air conditioning).

Here are Chattanooga’s essential ice cream spots for your sweetest summer yet.

8° F Ice Cream

8° F Ice Cream

East Brainerd and Hixson

Rolled ice cream really had a moment back in 2018, but this frozen treat isn’t just a novelty – it’s both eye-catching and mouthwatering. Because the ice cream is made-to-order, it allows for greater customization, and that’s where 8° F Ice Cream really shines. Creative bases like Strawberry Shwaty (vanilla mixed with graham and strawberry), Fifty Shades (chocolate and banana), and Pina Colada (vanilla, pineapple, and coconut) are then outfitted with up to three more toppings: things like pretzels, granola, jellies, brownies, and toasted marshmallow. While you can order online and avoid the wait, why miss the fun of seeing your personalized ice cream made before your very eyes?

Don’t miss: Oreo Cheesecake (vanilla ice cream + Oreos + cheesecake) is every bit as decadent as it sounds.

Ben & Jerry’s

Ben & Jerry’s

Downtown

Sure, you can get a pint of Ben & Jerry’s at most grocery stores – but there’s something about having it hand-scooped into a freshly baked waffle cone that makes it taste that much better. The Vermont-based ice cream parlor conveniently has an outpost in the heart of Chattanooga, making it a quick detour from the Tennessee Aquarium or High Point Climbing & Fitness. Beloved B&J flavors like Americone Dream®, Chunky Monkey®, and The Tonight Dough® are always on tap, as are non-dairy ice creams, sorbets, and custom sundaes.

Don’t miss: Cherry Garcia®, which features cherry ice cream with cherries and fudge flakes, is one of Ben & Jerry’s most iconic flavors.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream

East Brainerd

At Bruster’s, customers can expect delicious ice cream that’s made fresh daily. More than 150 recipes are in rotation at this counter-serve chain, although each location only makes up to 24 flavors per day – so if your favorite flavor isn’t on the board, don’t ask for it! With fun flavors like Chocolate Mudslide, Cookie Craze, Graham Central Station, Key Lime Pie, and New York Cheesecake, along with standbys like chocolate and vanilla, there’s bound to be something that tickles your fancy. Sundaes, splits, milkshakes, and Bruster’s Blasts are also on the menu.

Don’t miss: If it’s on the board, die-hard Bruster’s fans will tell you to order the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle – rich chocolate ice cream infused with tart raspberry swirls and sweet chocolate flakes.

Clumpies Ice Cream Co.

Clumpies Ice Cream Co.

Northshore, Southside, and St. Elmo

With three locations around town, you have plenty of opportunities to pop into Clumpies Ice Cream Co. A local favorite since 1999, Clumpies is known for its hand-crafted, small-batch ice cream using the finest ingredients (many of which are made in-house). Pralines and Cream, Sweet Cream, Coffee Toffee, and Chocolate Chocolate Chunk are among the most popular standard flavors, while new and exciting flavors are always on rotation depending on what’s in season – think Banana Puddin’, Carrot Cake, Lemon Icebox, and Honeycomb, just to name a few. And if you’d rather sip than scoop, you can cool off with one of Clumpies’ signature shakes, malts, or floats.

Don’t miss: Espresso Chocolate Chunk, an espresso-inspired coffee ice cream with loads of dark chocolate chunks, will get you through any afternoon slump.

Cold Stone Creamery

Cold Stone Creamery

Downtown

Chances are, you’re familiar with Cold Stone. This national chain offers design-your-own frozen creations, each hand-mixed right in front of you on a frozen granite slab. With mix-ins including cakes, candies, fruits, and nuts, along with a range of ice cream flavors, the options here truly feel endless. If you find it all too overwhelming, go with one of Cold Stone’s Signature Creations™ – the most famous, tried-and-true creations it has to offer. If the clever names don’t reel you in (Somewhere Over the Rain-Dough™, The Way the Cookie Crumbles™), the sweet smell of baked goods sure will.

Don’t miss: Our Strawberry Blonde® hits all the right notes with strawberry ice cream, graham cracker pie crust, strawberries, caramel, and whipped topping.

The Ice Cream Show

The Ice Cream Show

Downtown

Located right by the Walnut Street Bridge, The Ice Cream Show may seem like a tourist destination. However, tourists and locals can appreciate the custom-blended ice cream created inside. At The Ice Cream Show, over 40 fresh ingredients – everything from berries and nuts to gummies, marshmallows, and chocolates – can be blended with either ice cream or frozen yogurt to create more than 17,000 flavor combinations. And don’t forget your four-legged friend at home; the shop offers “Frosty Paws” ice cream for dogs and plenty of outdoor seating where you and your pup can chill out with some frozen treats.

Don’t miss: No matter what combo you go with, make sure it’s served in one of The Ice Cream Show’s fresh, homemade waffles cones, baked in-house daily.

Milk & Honey

Milk & Honey

Northshore

Milk & Honey opened its doors in 2013 and has been serving homemade gelato ever since. While M&H is a popular spot for brunch and pastries, you’d be remiss not to order gelato to go. A $6 cup will get you up to three flavors, with options ranging from classic flavors – like chocolate or cookie dough – to more unique offerings including Blueberry Buttermilk, Avocado, and Sicilian Pistachio. Pro tip: You can also snag Milk & Honey gelato at sister restaurant Community Pie downtown!

Don’t miss: For the ice cream purist, M&H’s signature Milk & Honey gelato raises the bar on standard vanilla.

Mr. T’s Pizza & Ice Cream

Mr. T’s Pizza & Ice Cream

St. Elmo

With a giant ice cream cone displayed just outside its doors, it’s impossible to miss Mr. T’s Pizza & Ice Cream. Locals frequent Mr. T’s for the made-from-scratch pizzas and stay for the ice cream, and with its convenient location in St. Elmo, it’s the perfect place to fuel up – and cool down – after a hike on nearby Lookout Mountain. Mr. T’s keeps a variety of Hershey’s ice cream flavors in stock, whether you want to stick with the traditional (vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate) or try something more involved, such as Moose Tracks, Peanut Butter Cup, and Butter Pecan.

Don’t miss: We’re partial to Birthday Cake – a cake-flavored ice cream with a bright blue frosting swirl and confetti-colored cake pieces.
