Giant Steps: An UrBean Musical
This is your last chance to catch the world premiere of this brand-new work featuring music and lyrics by local Michael Dexter. A contemporary twist on Jack and the Beanstalk, the musical follows the story of a 15-year-old who lives with his widowed mother in a rundown apartment in the big city. A chance encounter with a street vendor leaves him with magical beans that will forever change his fate. Giant Steps: An UrBean Musical is being presented on the Mainstage Theatre at the Chattanooga Theatre Center.
Music & Movies in Miller
Closing out the Music & Movies series for summer 2022 is Sonic the Hedgehog on August 6. This free event at Miller Park features not only the movie, but also musical entertainment, oversized games, artist vendors, and food trucks. The fun starts at 6 p.m., with the feature film to start at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.). Bring your blankets, chairs, and some cash to support your local vendors!
Chattanooga Lookouts – Dogs at the Diamond
Take your dog out to the ball game! Four-legged friends are invited to AT&T Field on August 10 to watch the Chattanooga Lookouts take on the Montgomery Biscuits. Water and sanitation areas will be provided, but a Pooch Pass ($5) must be purchased for each dog attending the game. Seating for dogs and their humans will be located at the Budweiser Party Deck.
Sunrise Cuban Band at McLemore
Back by popular demand, Sunrise Cuban Band is returning to McLemore for its 2022 Songwriter Series – a showcase of Grammy-award winning artists from May through October. The quartet highlights the musical connections between its members, who hail from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. The performance begins at 6 p.m. at McLemore Club in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Tickets are $55.
Join the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga for its annual Run4Kids 5K Run and Walk at Chattanooga State Community College from 9 until 11:30 a.m. In memory of Karen Lawrence, Run4Kids is a celebration of the many RMHC families that have stayed close to their sick children in the hospital. The funds raised through this event help make this care possible.
Heritage Park x Pure Barre Popup Class
Hosted by Pure Barre Chattanooga, this free popup class will work your entire body for a full 50 minutes. The class begins at 8 a.m. at Heritage Park and will target arms, thighs, seat, and abs. Registration is required to attend, and participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat (or towel) and water bottle. As an added bonus, local vendors will be set up afterwards!
Family Fun Day: Fairy Tales Enchantment
Fun for the whole family, head to the Hunter Museum of American Art for a Fairy Tales Enchantment event from 2 until 4 p.m. You’ll find indoor and outdoor activities including art-making stations, scavenger hunts, food tastings, costume making, and performances. Local artists and performers will lead visitors in art-making activities to connect and inspire.
Chattanooga Margarita Festival
Ever wondered who makes the best margarita in Chattanooga? Find out for yourself at the Chattanooga Margarita Festival. Each visitor receives a sample passport that includes 12 mini margaritas; also in store are live entertainment by local DJs, a Margarita Fest photo booth, and some of the Scenic City’s tastiest food vendors, including Nonni’s Empanadas, Dave & Buster’s, and Cart & Seoul. The festival runs from 6 until 9 p.m. at the First Horizon Pavilion.
Kickin’ It For Kids With Cancer
A special night of fun, food, and soccer awaits at the Kickin’ It for Kids With Cancer game on August 20. The Chattanooga Red Wolves are once again partnering with the Austin Hatcher Foundation to benefit kids with pediatric cancer and their families. The action-packed event raises both funds and awareness for pediatric cancer; be sure to purchase a t-shirt in support of this cause!
Buskers Festival at the Chattanooga Market
Enjoy street-style entertainment – from musicians to mimes and magicians – tucked into various corners of the Chattanooga Market this Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The First Horizon Pavilion will host these local performers (tips appreciated!) as well as food and artisan vendors. Take advantage of prime produce season while you still can.
Big Hair Affair
Party like it’s 1989 at the Chattanooga Kidney Foundation’s third annual Big Hair Affair! This totally rad night of dancing, food, drinks, auctions, trivia, and more takes place at The Walden Club beginning at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite throwback outfit from the ‘80s or ‘90s and celebrate the organization’s founding in style.
