SUMMARY:Sherry Cothran at The Woodshop
DESCRIPTION:Singer-songwriter Sherry Cothran returns to Chattanooga for an intimate performance at The Woodshop on Thursday\, September 17 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. \nCothran is the former lead singer and co-founder of The Evinrudes\, the Mercury Records\, NY\, rock band based in Nashville.. The band had rock radio success in the late 90’s/early aughts and shared stages with acts including the Goo Goo Dolls\, Barenaked Ladies and the Spin Doctors. \nAfter getting an M. Div. at Vanderbilt Divinity\, becoming ordained Methodist clergy and founding the Chattanooga based nonprofit Beloved Woman\, helping women create a pathway to a living wage\, Cothran has been returning to her rock roots as a songwriter\, gaining traction on Americana radio. She brings a new collection of songs she co-wrote with her Evinrudes’ partner to the stage. \nThe September 17 performance will feature songs from Cothran’s extensive catalog along with newer material\, with stories behind the songs woven throughout the evening. \nQuotes: \n“Cothran isn’t afraid to twist Southern vernacular into her own Flannery O’Connor brand of Gothic” – Tom Lanham\, San Francisco Examiner \n“Cothran mixes yearning emotions with sassy confidence to fine effect.” – Bucketfull of Brains\, UK\, Terry Hermon \n“She knows how to balance abstract concerns and concrete imagery – and she rocks without straining for effect.” – Jim Ridley\, Nashville Scene
