Riverside Bed and Breakfast
Just 25 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, lies the Riverside Bed and Breakfast. Located right on the river with waterfront views, this quaint bed and breakfast is owned and operated by the Bowers family. Guests can choose between the Tranquility Room and the Serenity Room, which share a kitchen and living area, called the Great Room. For couples looking for more privacy, consider booking A Frame of Mine, the rustic, a-frame cabin adjacent to the bed and breakfast.
As for the breakfast options, guests can choose to dine from the comfort of their room, in the designated dining area, or on a private patio overlooking the lake. Riverside prides themselves on providing the “tastiest breakfast along Soddy Creek,” but couples can also purchase a room at the “no-breakfast” rate, if desired.
The Overlook Inn
One hour away from Chattanooga, in Chatsworth, Georgia, lies the Overlook Inn, a romantic getaway in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Overlook Inn offers six unique bedrooms with different amenities for booking. Depending on your preferences, you can book a room with a private porch, hot tub, fireplace, and more.
The Overlook Inn also offers a three-course breakfast, complimentary coffee and tea, and a weekend wine and cheese hour. If you want to make your stay extra special, the inn offers optional package upgrades for fireside dinners and other romantic add-ons. In the area, couples can enjoy other North Georgia attractions like local apple houses, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, Fort Mountain State Park, and more.
Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast
Two and a half hours outside of Chattanooga is the Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast in Covington, Georgia. In 1836, Judge John Harris built this home as his town home, and a photograph of this house is what inspired set designers to create Twelve Oaks as the home in the 1939 film, “Gone With the Wind.”
In 2012, the mansion was fully renovated and turned into the bed and breakfast that it remains today. Guests can choose to stay in a variety of suites on the mansion’s three floors. Twelve Oaks serves southern-style breakfasts with ingredients from local markets and family farms. Popular breakfast options include their gravy and biscuits, peach-stuffed french toasts, and strawberry shortcake pancakes.
Bluff View Inn
Part of what makes the Bluff View Inn so special is that you can choose to stay in three different buildings, all located in the lovely Bluff View Arts District of downtown Chattanooga. Bluff View Inn is adjacent to many popular local eateries, such as Tony’s Pasta Shop and Rembrandt’s Coffee House, and it lies within walking distance of many downtown attractions.
- Maclellan House: When most people hear of the Bluff View Inn, they think of the main mansion—the Maclellan House. This English Tudor-style home sits right on the bluff, with an amazing view of the Tennessee River. The Maclellan House also houses the inn’s only honeymoon suite, as well as six other bedrooms. Built in the late 1800s, this house is decorated with historic and heirloom pieces.
- T.C. Thompson House: Just a few hundred feet away lies the Thompson House, built in 1908. This Victorian-style home features four guest rooms and two apartment-sized suites. Before it became a bed and breakfast, this was the original home of a former Chattanooga mayor, Thomas Thompson.
- Martin House: Last but not least, guests can also choose to stay in the Martin House, the first of Bluff View Inn’s bed and breakfasts. This 1927 Colonial Revival mansion houses three guest rooms, all furnished with antiques and traditional art. From the patio, guests can enjoy views of the Tennessee River and Maclellan Island.
All houses include daily breakfasts in the Maclellan House dining room as well as reservations at Tony’s Pasta Shop included in the rate.
Chanticleer Inn Bed and Breakfast
Perhaps one of the most well-known bed and breakfasts in the area is the Chanticleer Inn on top of Lookout Mountain. Owned and operated by Rock City, this local inn is conveniently located near Ruby Falls, the Incline Railways, and many other iconic Chattanooga attractions.
With 20 different rooms, guests can choose from a wide variety of deluxe stays. Each room features different amenities, with some including a jacuzzi or electric/gas fireplace. Each morning, guests can enjoy a homemade breakfast in the dining room, sun room, or on the patio. Typical breakfasts include hot entrees, like pancakes, breakfast burritos, and avocado toast, and locally-roasted coffee.
The Garden Walk Bed and Breakfast Inn
Also on top of Lookout Mountain is The Garden Walk Bed and Breakfast Inn. At this bed and breakfast, guests can choose from a variety of private cottages, from the “Wild Rose” to the “Robin’s Nest,” and more. While the cottages vary in size and number of bedrooms, all feature wifi access, a flat-screen TV, and daily housekeeping.
Between 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., breakfast is served in the inn’s Garden and Gathering Rooms, though guests can dine on the porch in warmer weather. The breakfast menu rotates between popular dishes such as peach french toast, chocolate chip pancakes, and more. While on vacation, guests can enjoy other attractions on Lookout Mountain, like Rock City and Ruby Falls, while still being close to downtown Chattanooga.
St. Francis Cottage
In the East Brainerd area of Chattanooga, guests can stay at the St. Francis Cottage, located off of Gunbarrel Road. The cottage has seven different rooms to choose from, each with modern furnishings and luxurious amenities. While each room is unique, all guest rooms feature an electric fireplace, flat-screen TV, books and magazines, and more.
As for breakfast, guests can enjoy Southern-style comfort food in three courses, featuring fresh-cut fruit, a savory entree, and a breakfast dessert. For activities, guests are still within 20 minutes of downtown Chattanooga and its iconic attractions.
Mayor’s Mansion Inn
In the heart of downtown Chattanooga lies the Mayor’s Mansion Inn. Built in 1889, this 11-room bed and breakfast was first the home of Edmond G. Watkins, who later became the mayor of Chattanooga. Located in the Fort Wood Historic District, guests can enjoy a relaxing stay in these historic, yet luxurious, accommodations.
The Mayor’s Mansion Inn offers a complimentary three-course breakfast served in the Tiffany Room, though guests can have it served in-room for an additional fee. All breakfasts are seasonal, southern-style, and made with fresh ingredients. Guests can also enjoy high tea and a supper club for an additional cost on certain weekends.
