Chattanooga Education

Regardless of age, opportunities to get a quality education in Chattanooga are everywhere you turn. A number of public elementary, middle, and high schools serve the area, and Hamilton County also boasts more than 40 private schools – several of which rank among some of the country’s most prestigious.

On top of the public and private offerings, Chattanooga is also home to 13 magnet schools with concentrations in environmental science, fine arts, math, liberal arts, science, and technology. These schools, along with a handful of charter schools, offer specialized curriculum to students.

Further bolstering students’ education opportunities are several programs aimed at advancing learning and exploring career pathways. Organizations such as the Hamilton County Department of Education, the Benwood Foundation, the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Public Education Foundation are integral to creating, implementing, and maintaining these programs.

In addition, several colleges throughout the area partner with local high schools to offer advanced and dual enrollment courses for students looking for a leg up when it comes to obtaining a degree.

For college-aged students, several higher education institutions service the area, and cohorts range from a few thousand to over 10,000. Some schools offer an array of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, while others focus on associate degrees and accelerated, specialized certificates – both of which are crucial to fulfilling the demands of the area’s growing workforce. These schools and programs often feature an impressive faculty-to-student ratio, plenty of hands-on learning, and a commendable job placement rate.

For the faith-minded, a handful of private universities – many with a liberal arts focus – work to provide a Christ-centered, quality education. Many colleges in the area, regardless of degree type, offer some form of online coursework in addition to in-person classes, giving students an added level of flexibility.

Regardless of age or career goals, the Scenic City boasts the organizations, tools, and resources to make sure residents are well educated and prepared for generations to come.
