The Chattanooga metro area extends to North Georgia, where cities such as Rossville, Ringgold, Fort Oglethorpe, and Chickamauga attract homeowners with affordable living, quality education, and convenient healthcare offerings.

North Georgia has an abundance of single-family, suburban homes to choose from. Popular neighborhoods include Bridlewood, Creeks Jewell, Homestead Estates, The Pointe, and Stonebrooke. New construction communities are also available throughout North Georgia such as The Fields at Huntley Meadows, Hawk’s View, and Pine Lakes Subdivision.

Over 30 public schools are available to North Georgia students in Catoosa and Walker counties. Area high schools include Heritage High School, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, Ringgold High School, LaFayette High School, and Ridgeland High School. Private schools are also available, such as Oakwood Christian Academy in Chickamauga and Christian Heritage School in nearby Dalton.

CHI Memorial Hospital Georgia is located in Fort Oglethorpe and provides emergency, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and outpatient treatment care, as well as general medical and surgical services. In Dalton, Vitruvian Health’s Hamilton Medical Center offers advanced medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including accredited stroke and chest pain centers. Additionally, Parkridge East Hospital is located just over the state line in East Ridge.

In Rossville, the popular family amusement park Lake Winnepesaukah offers roller coasters, a water park, and more summertime fun. You can also experience Rossville history at the home of Chief John Ross, leader of the Cherokees, which was built in 1797. A short drive away, Chickamauga is home to Civil War historical sites, including the Gordon-Lee Mansion and the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Ringgold offers more rich North Georgia history at the Historic Ringgold Train Depot, built in 1849. Also in the area, Georgia Winery, Chattanooga Valley’s oldest and most celebrated winery, produces award-winning fine wines and is open for visits and Saturday tours. Dalton is home to both a craft brewery and distillery in their historic downtown. 

 

The South Chickamauga Creek offers calm water and several boat launch points around Catoosa County, making it a great option for paddlers of all ages. For walkers and runners, the Ringgold Creek Walk sidewalk system offers peaceful views connecting the Highway Commercial district to the Historic Downtown district. Elsie A. Holmes Nature Park is another green space along the creek, offering over 2 miles of walking trails through 66 acres of hardwood forest. Dalton’s Haig Mill Lake Park has a 3.5-mile trail, a fishing lake, and a pavilion, and Ringgold’s Jack Mattox Recreation Complex offers a playground, a 1.2-mile walking track, a 9-hole disc golf course, and baseball and softball tournaments throughout the year. In Fort Oglethorpe, Gilbert-Stephenson Park is home to a public swimming pool, tennis courts, an inclusive playground, and walking tracks for all to enjoy.

Fort Oglethorpe has a variety of big box stores and national brands selling apparel, shoes, furniture, and more. Also in the area, Stable 41 is a farmers market open to the public on Sundays from May through October. Ringgold and Dalton both have various boutiques and home goods stores for shoppers to enjoy. A short drive away, the Dalton Mall features Belk, American Eagle, Books-A-Million, and over 20 specialty stores.

North Georgia offers a variety of national chains and local eateries with options for every taste. Diners in the area will find Italian, Asian fusion, barbecue, seafood, Southern comfort, and new American cuisine.

North Georgia residents can make use of highways I-75 and I-59 for convenient access to Atlanta and Birmingham. I-75 also provides quick access to Downtown Chattanooga.

Grocery chain Food City serves the cities of Rossville and Fort Oglethorpe. Fort Oglethorpe is additionally home to a Walmart Neighborhood Market and Walmart Supercenter as well as Save A Lot. Heading toward Ringgold, shoppers will find Walmart Supercenter and Publix Super Market at Boynton Ridge Plaza, while Ringgold proper has a United Grocery Outlet, Ingles Markets, and Food Lion. Along I-75, Costco Wholesale is a popular spot for finding a variety of food items.
