In Fort Oglethorpe, CommonSpirit – Memorial Hospital – North Georgia offers comprehensive medical and surgical services, as well as emergency care, lab testing, imaging, pharmacy support, and outpatient treatment. Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton also offers medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, as well as accredited stroke and chest pain centers. Just over the state line in East Ridge, Parkridge East Hospital is also available to North Georgia residents.

TRANSPORTATION

North Georgia residents can make use of highways I-75 and I-59 for convenient access to Atlanta and Birmingham. I-75 also provides quick access to Downtown Chattanooga.

ATTRACTIONS & HISTORIC SITES

In Rossville, families flock to Lake Winnepesaukah, a beloved amusement park featuring roller coasters, a water park, and endless summertime fun. History buffs can explore the home of Chief John Ross, leader of the Cherokees, which was built in 1797. Just a short drive away, Chickamauga showcases Civil War landmarks, like the Gordon-Lee Mansion and the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Ringgold offers even more glimpses into the past with the Historic Ringgold Train Depot, constructed in 1849. Nearby, the Georgia Winery – Chattanooga Valley’s oldest and most celebrated winery – produces award-winning wines and welcomes guests for Saturday tastings and tours. Over in Dalton, visitors can sample local flavors at a craft brewery and distillery in their historic downtown. 

OUTDOORS & PARKS

Winding through scenic Catoosa County, the South Chickamauga Creek is perfect for new and seasoned paddlers alike, offering several boat launch points for easy access. For those who prefer to stay on land, the Ringgold Creek Walk sidewalk system offers peaceful views connecting the Highway Commercial district to the Historic Downtown district. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring Elsie A. Holmes Nature Park, offering over 2 miles of walking trails through 66 acres of hardwood forest. In Dalton, Haig Mill Lake Park invites visitors to hike along its 3.5-mile trail, fish in the lake, or picnic at the pavilion. Ringgold’s Jack Mattox Recreation Complex offers a playground, 1.2-mile walking track, nine-hole disc golf course, and baseball and softball tournaments throughout the year. In Fort Oglethorpe, Gilbert-Stephenson Park is home to a public swimming pool, tennis courts, an inclusive playground, and walking tracks for all to enjoy, and nearby, Walker Rocks Park features a playground with nearly two dozen different components, including several climbing features.

SHOPPING

Fort Oglethorpe features a mix of national retailers and big-box stores – offering everything from apparel to home décor. On Sundays from May through October, Stable 41 hosts a lively farmers market with local produce and handmade goods. In nearby Ringgold and Dalton, shoppers can explore charming boutiques and home stores, while the Dalton Mall offers name-brand favorites like Belk, American Eagle, Books-A-Million, and more than 20 specialty stores.

DINING

North Georgia offers a variety of national chains and local eateries with options for every taste. Diners in the area can enjoy Italian, Asian fusion, barbecue, seafood, Southern comfort, and new American cuisine.
