Erlanger has served the Chattanooga region for over 130 years as the community’s nonprofit public health system. Erlanger is comprised of seven hospitals and emergency rooms, eight Express Care locations, three community health centers, and numerous physician practices ranging from family medicine to specialty care located in Tennessee, North Georgia, and Western North Carolina. Erlanger is the region’s only academic medical center, affiliated with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, as well as the region’s only Level I Trauma Center, only Comprehensive Stroke Center, only neonatal intensive care unit of the highest level, and only kidney transplant program. Erlanger’s tertiary care services cover a region spanning 50,000 square miles, and Erlanger is the only provider of these essential services in the Chattanooga area, with over 900 licensed beds throughout the region. The health system also operates a fleet of six air ambulances, delivering critical care in the air for over 30 years and providing over 2,000 flights each year. With close to 1 million patient visits per year, Erlanger provides centers of excellence in bariatrics, cancer, heart and lung, emergency, neuroscience, orthopedics, pediatrics, primary care, surgery, trauma, urology, and women’s services. Erlanger is recognized internationally for its Southeast Regional Stroke Center and the role it plays in clinical trials, technology innovations, and stroke treatment. The health system is also host to Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, which is the only hospital in the Chattanooga and tri-state region devoted solely to the care of children.
