With Chattanooga’s beautiful mountains and stunning scenery, it’s no surprise that the city has become a hub for mountain biking. In fact, according to Trailforks, there are more than 100 mountain bike trails within the Chattanooga area. For those looking to get into mountain biking, here are some of the best places to find mountain bike trails for all skill levels.

Just before Moccasin Bend, and 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, Raccoon Mountain is one of the most popular mountain biking destinations in the area. Thanks to SORBA Chattanooga, an organization dedicated to mountain bike trail preservation and development, Raccoon Mountain houses 30 miles of trails open to hikers, runners, and of course, mountain bikers.
Open from sunrise to 7:30 p.m., locals and visitors alike can find mountain biking routes ranging from intermediate to advanced, with steep climbs, fast descents, and other technical features. Or, for those who prefer a more leisurely experience, the one-way paved roadway circling Racoon Mountain’s reservoir makes for a relaxing ride.
Aetna Mountain Trails
Nearby, Aetna Mountain Trails was opened by the Tennessee River Gorge Trust (TRGT) in November of 2023, offering four miles of trails in its first phase of development. Upon completion, the trail system will offer roughly 12 miles of high-quality trails for mountain biking, hiking, and running for athletes of all abilities. Open from sunrise to sunset, SORBA classifies Aetna Mountain Trails as best for beginner to intermediate riders.
